The trek

A remote, demanding traverse from the Miyar valley in Lahaul over the 5,450 m Kang La into the heart of Zanskar. (Pricing to be confirmed.)

The Kang La is one of the great connecting crossings of the Western Himalaya, linking the granite-walled Miyar valley of Lahaul with the remote Zanskar region over a 5,450 m glaciated pass. It is a long, committing wilderness traverse that begins in the meadows and spires of the upper Miyar and finishes deep in the Buddhist villages of Zanskar, crossing glacier and moraine at its high point.

This is a serious route for experienced, well-acclimatised trekkers, with glacier travel on the pass and several days beyond the reach of any road. Its length and isolation demand fitness and a settled weather window in the high summer months of July to September, when the Kang La is clear enough to cross safely.
