Miyar Valley
The hidden Yosemite of Lahaul
The trek
A gentle, remote valley trek up the Miyar nala past alpine meadows and granite walls, deep into one of Lahaul's most beautiful and least-visited valleys.
The Miyar Valley, stretching north from Udaipur in Lahaul, is one of the Indian Himalaya's hidden gems — a long, gentle glen of alpine meadows, meandering streams and soaring granite walls that has earned it the nickname the Hidden Yosemite. This trek follows the Miyar nala from the last village of Khanjer deep into the valley, past a string of grassy campsites toward the glaciers and the wall of peaks around the Kang La at its head.
Although almost the entire trek stays above 3,500 m, the gradients are mostly easy and the daily distances manageable, making it a moderate route rewarding for fit first-timers and seasoned trekkers alike. Wildflowers carpet the meadows in season, and the granite spires of the valley draw climbers from around the world. Best walked from June through September.
