Mt. Nun
The roof of the Suru valley — a 7,000 m Himalayan giant
The trek
A highly technical high-altitude expedition to the 7,135 m summit of Mt. Nun, the tallest peak in the Suru valley, for experienced climbers only.
Mt. Nun, at 7,135 m, is the highest peak of the Suru valley and one of the most sought-after 7,000 m objectives in the Indian Himalaya. Rising above the village of Tangol in the Kargil district, it shares a 4 km snow plateau with its twin Mt. Kun. This is a highly technical, expedition-grade climb meant for experienced mountaineers who are already comfortable on steep snow and ice, fixed ropes and multi-camp high-altitude climbing.
The expedition runs Leh to Leh and includes acclimatisation in Leh, the drive into the Suru valley, a trek to base camp and a long climbing phase of rotations between higher camps before the summit push. The itinerary carries generous reserve days for the weather-dependent summit window. A prior 6,000 m summit and formal mountaineering training are strongly recommended before attempting Nun.
