Jagatsukh Peak
A glaciated trekking peak above Jagatsukh
The trek
A 5,050 m trekking-peak climb above the old village of Jagatsukh near Manali, crossing glacier and crevassed ground to a fine Pir Panjal summit.
Jagatsukh Peak, at 5,050 m, is a glaciated trekking peak that rises above the old temple village of Jagatsukh near Manali, on the Deo Tibba side of the Kullu Himalaya. The climb crosses meadow, moraine and a crevassed glacier to a summit with a sweeping Pir Panjal panorama, making it an excellent introduction to real mountaineering effort within easy reach of Manali.
It involves roped glacier travel and negotiating crevasses, so prior high-altitude trekking experience and good fitness are needed, but it is non-technical enough for a strong first-time climber. Acclimatisation and a reserve day are included; best attempted in the pre- and post-monsoon climbing seasons.
