Mt. Yunam Peak
A first 6,000-metre summit above Baralacha
The trek
A non-technical 6,000-metre summit above the Baralacha La — the most forgiving way to learn what high-altitude mountaineering actually asks of you.
Mt. Yunam rises to 6,111 metres above the Baralacha La on the Manali–Leh highway, and it has quietly become the peak that Indian mountaineers cut their teeth on. There is no technical climbing — no vertical ice, no exposed rock — only a long, lung-burning snow slog at an altitude where the air holds barely half the oxygen of the plains.
That is exactly the point. Yunam teaches the real skills of an expedition: roping up, walking on crampons, pacing your breath, and reading your own body at altitude. We run it as a proper expedition with a base camp, acclimatisation rotations and a pre-dawn summit push, so you leave with a genuine 6,000er behind you and the confidence to go higher.
Highlights

- Your first lesson in crampons, rope-work and high-altitude pacing
- The stark beauty of the Baralacha region on the Manali–Leh road

Day by day
The itinerary
7 days from Bharatpur City. Tap any day to read the detail — distances and altitudes are planning figures and may shift with conditions.
A long, high-altitude drive that crosses beneath the Pir Panjal through the Atal Tunnel and climbs the Bhaga valley along the Manali-Leh highway. The road gains height relentlessly past Keylong, Jispa and Darcha toward the Baralacha La. The day ends at Bharatpur City, a bleak cluster of seasonal tents on the high plateau near the pass, where the thin air immediately makes itself felt.
