The trek

The classic 12-day cycling traverse from Manali to Leh — over the Rohtang, Baralacha, Lachung and Taglang passes to Leh, and up to Khardung La.

The Manali–Leh road is one of the world's great cycling routes — a 500-plus-kilometre traverse of the Himalaya that crosses four major passes and climbs from green Kullu forest into the raw high desert of Ladakh. Over twelve days you ride the Rohtang, the Baralacha, the Lachung and the Taglang La, camping under enormous skies, before a finale up to Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes on Earth.

This is a serious high-altitude endurance ride, fully supported with vehicles, and it rewards fit cyclists with a front-row seat to the changing Himalaya — from waterfalls and gorges to the Morey Plains and the moonscapes above Leh. Acclimatisation is built into the schedule, but the passes are long and the air is thin, and the road itself is the adventure.
