The trek
A challenging and seldom-attempted crossing of the Panpatia Col at 5,260 m over the Panpatia snowfield, connecting the Alaknanda valley near Badrinath with the Madhyamaheshwar valley towards Kedarnath.

From Joshimath the route climbs the upper Alaknanda through a series of shepherd, snout and moraine camps to the Parvati Col and the vast Panpatia snowfield, before crossing the Panpatia Col to Sujal Sarovar and descending towards Ransi. One of the least-crossed passes in Garhwal, it calls for glacier travel, navigation and full acclimatisation, and is best attempted in the pre- and post-monsoon seasons.
