The trek
An accessible 5,250 m trekking peak above Beas Kund, an ideal first mountaineering summit on snow with a big Pir Panjal panorama.
Shitidhar is the friendly, snow-capped trekking peak that rises straight above Beas Kund at 5,250 m, and it makes one of the best first Himalayan summits in Himachal. The approach follows the popular Beas Kund trail from Solang through Dhundi and Bakarthach to a base camp near the sacred lake, from where a straightforward snow climb leads to a summit ringed by Hanuman Tibba, Friendship Peak and the Pir Panjal.
While non-technical by mountaineering standards, it still involves roped glacier travel and a real summit push on snow, and gives beginners a genuine taste of climbing with crampons and ice-axe. Acclimatisation at Beas Kund and a reserve day are built in; best climbed in the pre- and post-monsoon seasons.
